The Story Behind Sharecase

Not Your Parents' Networking Platform.

We can't change the fact that kids are growing up on social media. But we can change what they do with it.

The Story Behind Sharecase.

"Before Sharecase was a platform, it was a question: Why weren't we giving young people the tools to build their own stories, relationships, and digital reputations?"

Jennifer Garaghty
Founder & CEO, Sharecase

01  Where It Started

I spent years learning how to build a brand. Then I realized we weren't teaching our kids how to build theirs.

My background is in business development, where I learned pretty quickly that success isn't just about what you know or even what you've accomplished. It's about relationships, credibility, how you present yourself, and making sure people understand what you bring to the table. I learned how important it was to build a brand for a company, but just as importantly, how important it was to build one for myself.

And then there's my other full-time job—raising five kids. Watching my own children navigate school, sports, activities, friendships, and eventually college made me realize something. We're expecting young people to understand networking, personal branding, and digital reputation without ever really giving them the tools to learn.

02  Rethinking Social Media

We spend years teaching kids what not to post. What if we taught them what to post instead?

Only warning them

We remind our kids that what they put online can follow them for years. That colleges, recruiters, and future employers may someday see it. We worry about the photo, comment, or video they'll regret five years from now.

Intentionally building

But social media isn't going anywhere. Instead of only warning them about the consequences of a negative digital footprint, what if we encouraged them to intentionally build a positive one? One that reflects their work, growth, character, interests, and accomplishments.

AchievementsMentorshipVerificationConnections

As adults, we have LinkedIn. We network, establish credibility, and share our professional milestones. Our kids deserve the opportunity to begin learning those skills long before they need them. Not by turning teenagers into miniature professionals, but by giving them a platform designed for who they are today.

03  The Investment We Make in Our Kids

We invest so much in our kids. Why do we let the relationships they've built disappear?

Think about the years of time, energy, and money families invest in their children. The coaches, tutors, teachers, camps, teams, lessons, volunteer organizations, and countless other experiences. Along the way, our kids build meaningful relationships with people who witness their dedication, resilience, growth, and character firsthand.

  1. 1

    The coach.

The coach who watched your child grow for five years could someday write an extraordinary recommendation.

  2. 2

    The teacher.

The teacher who recognized their potential could help open a door.

  3. 3

    The mentor.

The mentor who encouraged them through a difficult experience could become a lifelong connection.

  4. The student.

Carries every one of those relationships into the next chapter.

But then a season ends. A school year finishes. A coach moves away. A student graduates. And those relationships often fade. Yet so often, when the moment comes to ask for a recommendation or guidance, those connections are no longer easy to find.

“What if those relationships could grow with our kids instead of being left behind?”

04  The Stories Behind the Achievements

A trophy tells you someone won. It doesn't tell you their story.

Traditional records

A transcript tells you what grade a student earned.
A résumé tells you what they've done.
A statistic tells you how they performed.

But none of those necessarily tells you who that person is, how hard they worked, what they overcame, or who helped them get there.

Highlights

And why should students have to wait until they're applying to college or looking for their first job to start telling that story? What if they could build it as they go?

One achievement, one experience, and one meaningful connection at a time.

And then comes the college application.

Four Years of Achievements. One Application. Where Do You Even Begin?

Suddenly, you're sitting down trying to remember four years of your child's life. Every activity. Every award. Every leadership role. Every volunteer hour. Every accomplishment that seemed so important at the time.

You're scrolling through old photos, searching emails, digging through calendars, and asking, "Wait, what year was that? How many hours did you volunteer? What was the name of that award?"

And somehow, you're supposed to condense four years of growth, experiences, and achievements into a few tiny boxes on an application.

But what about everything that doesn't fit? The setbacks they overcame. The relationships they built. The moments that shaped who they became.

Four years of becoming who they are, and we're trying to remember it all in a matter of days.

What if they had been building that story all along? Not just for a college application, but for themselves.

That's what Sharecase makes possible.

05  That's Why We Built Sharecase

A social achievement platform built around who students are becoming.

Sharecase gives students a place to share their achievements, experiences, interests, and goals while building an evolving digital portfolio. Instead of parents being the ones who share every accomplishment (and as a mom of five, I'm certainly guilty of that!), students take ownership of their own stories. Whether it's academics, athletics, the arts, leadership, volunteering, or personal milestones, their accomplishments become part of something bigger. And they're not doing it alone.

Students

Share achievements, experiences, interests, and goals. Request verification and endorsements from people who have witnessed their work. Build a living portfolio of accomplishments, highlights, and experiences that grows with them.

Sharecase isn't about turning childhood into a competition or making every experience about college admissions. It's about giving young people a place to recognize their growth, celebrate their accomplishments, build meaningful relationships, and take ownership of the stories they're creating.

Because their stories deserve to be told by them.

06  The Bigger Picture

We're Building More Than a Social Network.

We're creating a place where achievements don't disappear into old photo albums, relationships don't end when a season does, and students don't have to start from scratch every time they take their next step.

A place where a coach can look back and see how a former athlete has grown.

Where a teacher can celebrate the accomplishments of a student they once encouraged.

Where students can look back at their own journeys and see how far they've come.

And where opportunities can develop naturally through the relationships and experiences they've built along the way.

Jennifer Garaghty

I believe the next generation deserves a better way to build its digital reputation. And I believe we can make social media something that actually works for them.

“That's why I built Sharecase.”
